Age

Some words may imply a preference for older or younger candidates (fresh, energetic, flexible). To ensure inclusivity, avoid these terms or clearly describe the qualities you expect from a candidate.

Gender (m/f/x and LGBT+)

Using predominantly masculine words (ambitious, target, leader, competitive, analyze) may discourage some female candidates from applying. Similarly, using predominantly feminine words (understand, support, trust, share) might deter male candidates. Aim for a balanced language to attract diverse talent.

Affinity / Similarity

We have an unconscious tendency to favor people who are similar to us, which can hinder diversity and its many benefits. To promote inclusivity, avoid specifying backgrounds such as top schools, "big four" consultancy firms, or major banks.

Disability

Visually impaired, hearing impaired, or people with physical disabilities—of course, you wouldn't joke about these in a job posting. However, did you know that figurative language, such as carrying, pushing or seeing might not always be appreciated? Be mindful of your wording.

Ethnic-cultural / Race

A candidate's place of origin or physical characteristics should not be part of the selection criteria. Therefore, it’s best not to include these in the job posting. Focus on competencies and skills, even if a C2 language level (full command of the language) is required for the role.
